Little Democracy Left in Canada

Corporations Run Our Governments – Own Our Media – Control Trudeau

Our problems are deeper than Homelessness and High House Prices and Health Care and Pipelines. These things – and many more – are just ‘the symptoms’. Our real problem is that our Democracy and our Media are owned by Corporate Canada. It is this problem that underlies all the others.

Canadians now have very little voice in how our country is governed. Our Politicians and our Governments don’t work for us. They work for Corporate Canada. Our top politicians have sold us out in exchange for nice jobs, good salaries, and great pensions. Those politicians are doing very well – we pay. One Small Example: 80% of Canadians want ‘GMO foods’ labeled. But Corporate Canada doesn’t want them labeled. So they aren’t. GMO foods are poisonous and a major environmental threat. But we have to eat them because the people who run Canada don’t care what we want. We Canadians are irrelevant in our own country, and THAT is what must change if we want to solve our problems. The Site C Issue: The Tale of Two Voting Systems

By Richard Habgood.

BC’S Site C dam is a very contentious issue. On one side, you have Premier Clark and Energy Minister Bennett, who are determined to build a dam that they say is necessary for future electrical needs and to power an LNG industry. Opponents contend that if BC does need the power, we can get it from less expensive renewable resources and without infringing on First Nations rights or destroying farmland that could feed a million people.

So how does the electoral voting system play into this scenario?

First Past the Post:

The 2013 BC Provincial election, using our first past the post (FPTP ) voting system, saw the Liberals win 44% of the popular vote but in doing so they gained 58% majority of seats in the Legislature. BC’s FPTP voting system awarded the provincial Liberals a “false majority ” government with a minority of votes. And because they gained a slim majority of seats, they have governed as if they have a mandate to do what they want and build Site C. Murder in France

We ARE Under Attack … but by Whom??

(July 21, 2016) Since 9/11, so much has been a False Flag or a Lie. I think 9/11 itself was a False Flag supported by the most powerful people in the U.S. That’s why neither the U.S. nor Canadian Governments had an honest investigation. And that’s why the Corporate Media will never ask the questions that would blow the lid off the official 9/11 lies. Thousands of innocent people were killed on 9/11, and those deaths led to millions more deaths in the Middle East. That was The Corporate Plan and they carried it out and led us into a disaster that seems to work for them.

A U.S. War OF Terror: The destruction of Afghanistan and Iraq was based on lies. Those nations were destroyed by a U.S. led War OF Terror. Canada participated. This War of Terror was sold to us by our corrupt Media. Libya was then destroyed by a NATO attack led by a Canadian General. And now Syria. Continue reading

Christy Clark Closes Vancouver Schools To Pay For Corporate Tax Cuts

But Globe and Mail Story doesn’t say that …

(June 29, 2016):  Public Education in BC is under attack as Premier Christy Clark closes schools to pay for Corporate Tax Cuts.  But Canada’s Corporate Owned Media won’t say that because journalists are not allowed to report the truth.  Only the Corporate Truth is allowed in Canada’s media.

A June 21 Globe and Mail story says the Vancouver School Board is looking at closing 12 schools to deal with a $27 million deficit.  The Globe tells us closing these schools would save about $9 million a year  This is about 1 / 1000 of one year’s profit of the Royal Bank ($10 Billion). But the Globe won’t talk about taxing the banks to give more money to our public schools. That’s an idea they do NOT want people to ever think about, so they never mention it.  In Canada saying ‘Tax the Banks’ is not allowed. Continue reading

Are Homelessness and High House Prices Two Parts of the Same Plan?

Would Corporate Canada create a housing shortage to push up prices and make a fortune?
While ‘the corporate media’ remains silent…

(May 27, 2016):    I think the Billionaires who run this country have deliberately created a shortage of homes in many of our cities.  The housing shortage has pushed up prices and put millions of Canadians deeply into debt, while creating huge profits for the 1%.  The shortage has also created a homeless problem that is destabilizing our cities and harming us all.  And this is not by accident, this IS the corporate plan.

There is little available housing in many of our cities. So thousands of people at the bottom of the economic ladder have been forced onto the streets.  These are Canadians who don’t have enough money to compete for a place to live.  In the past we had enough homes for everyone.  But now we don’t.  Why?

Here in Victoria BC, the Media constantly blame the homeless and pit them against ‘the rest of us’.  But the media NEVER tell us why we have this problem. Continue reading

DESTROYING OUR FUTURE: Christy Clark .. Site C .. and Corporate Canada

No Site C Dam Here

(March 24, 2016)  The big problem in Canada is that The Corporations run the country.  They own The Big Media, and they control The Top Politicians.  The politicians ‘manage’ us – and the Media keep us divided and uninformed so we don’t get in the way.

Site C is one example.  It’s an economic and environmental disaster – but it works for the 1% of the 1% – so Christy Clark is building it for them.  She’ll spend Billions of our dollars to build Site C and destroy some of Canada’s best farmland.  And Site C will also help bankrupt – and privatize – BC Hydro. It’s Win Win for big business. Continue reading

TAKEDOWN

By Anne from Saltspring Island.

I am temporarily nesting in a small, simple cabin over the winter months. It overlooks a green, dreamy lake mirrored in magnificence by a thick array of trees standing tall and proud. Each morning, flocks of vocal feathered friends and I greet our connection to all this splendour. This particular morning, however, would be so profoundly different for me, a personal revelation or am I yet another humble conduit for the earth’s urgent message? It began with a glimpse of a delicate, golden leaf spiralling down in its dance to the ground. This very ordinary sight would yield the deeply unsettling reminder that unlike the leaf who in its “aliveness” gives us breath and in its “death” gives enrichment, sadly humanity is only offering up our dance of destruction.

We are the TAKERS. We take the soil, digging, extracting and contaminating. We take the water resources of lakes, streams and rivers and destroy their precious purpose of sustaining all life. We bulldoze paradise and replace it with arteries of highways, sterile big-box stores, half-empty, paved parking lots and vast swaths of suburbia bursting with larger-than-necessary houses filled with our plastic possessions. We take over the oceans of glorious undersea gardens housing majestic creatures of the deep and fill them with toxic dead zones of our waste while endless cargo ships, floating hotels and large fishing fleets leave depletion and destruction in their wake. We take over the skies with invisible highways choked with airplanes, belching smoke stacks, noxious clouds and faded blue. We take over mountains, disturbing their pure and silent majesty with year-round playgrounds for our noisy, self-indulgent amusement. We take away the magic of the changing seasons with our incessant whining of dissatisfaction. Continue reading

Canada: The Colonial Curse.

by Robin Mathews.

Part One:

The Canary In The Coal Mine: Culture.

We often think of ‘Culture’ as out there. But it’s here. And it has to be here because it’s us.

Economics makes possible the culture we know and live and create… and is part of culture. And culture is, normally, the voice and character of the people (visibly expressed in the arts). As “speaking of what we are” culture is very important … and so (in a colony) it’s controlled in a hundred ways (we don’t see). “Speaking of what we are” can be dangerous. So, for instance, appointments to major cultural management positions show who is really in charge in a country.

In a colony culture is the voice of the foreign-owned and sold-out economy. The two link inextricably – culture and economy. In Canada formal “Culture” doesn’t explain, doesn’t resist the colonial condition. In Canada it sells out. Cultural organizations which – in a colony – should be leaders towards independence are, in Canada, guardians of on-going colonization.

By definition “voices” of and for the culture – freest to speak, existing to speak (we say), artists, arts organizations and all those others who speak to us (universities, presses, Media, magazines, etc. etc. “Culture”) in Canada deny their critical role; they urge colonial passivity. And they do so, often, by denying the colonial condition exists. Continue reading

Where Power Really Lies In Climate Change

By Robin Mathews.

As we watch … huge criminal corporations, governments, and their lemming environmentalists race to the cliff edge in Paris, refusing to grapple with the reason they are racing…. They refuse – in any meaningful way – to challenge The One Per Cent head on, which is where effective solutions to climate change begin.

While a flood of information pours out of Paris about poor nations and rich nations and island nations drowning … and the undeniable fact of Global Warming, The One Per Cent grows richer and takes more of planetary wealth as a function of misusing populations, wasting raw materials, selfishly exploiting technology, destroying the biosphere … and buying governments like picking up so many stock options.

The One Per Cent make up the people behind “Free Trade Treaties” that, in fact, remove national sovereignty, erase conditions for middle nation independence and climate viability, and lash huge populations – like galley slaves – to the profit machines of imperial nations owned by The One Per Cent and working (‘as if ‘democratic and/or “fair” societies) to funnel more and more of the world’s wealth into the pockets of a very few. Was Paris a False Flag Attack?

Canada’s Corporate Media spreads fear and lies – but little truth.

(Nov. 29, 2015) We know Paris may be a False Flag attack because it’s been done before. In 1980 a CIA operation called Gladio bombed Italy’s busiest train station killing and injuring nearly 300. It was done to destabilize Italy and keep Corporate Governments in power. The bombing was part of a decades long U.S. backed murder and terror campaign throughout Europe. (Google: Operation Gladio)

The people of Western Europe have built fairly democratic and ‘social-democratic’ countries. They are leaders on Climate Change and stopping GMOs. Europe won’t sign trade deals to give corporations yet more power. Canada and the United States WILL sign them. The Corporations hate this European democracy, and it’s possible they are behind creating fear and anger across Europe in order to bring in more ‘friendly’ governments. So questions must be asked. I don’t SAY Paris was a False Flag attack, but there must be a full and open investigation so we know some truth other than the corporate truth. Continue reading
