The Site C Issue: The Tale of Two Voting Systems

By Richard Habgood.

BC’S Site C dam is a very contentious issue. On one side, you have Premier Clark and Energy Minister Bennett, who are determined to build a dam that they say is necessary for future electrical needs and to power an LNG industry. Opponents contend that if BC does need the power, we can get it from less expensive renewable resources and without infringing on First Nations rights or destroying farmland that could feed a million people.

So how does the electoral voting system play into this scenario?

First Past the Post:

The 2013 BC Provincial election, using our first past the post (FPTP ) voting system, saw the Liberals win 44% of the popular vote but in doing so they gained 58% majority of seats in the Legislature. BC’s FPTP voting system awarded the provincial Liberals a “false majority ” government with a minority of votes. And because they gained a slim majority of seats, they have governed as if they have a mandate to do what they want and build Site C. Justice In Chains. Jessica Ernst And Slick Water.

By Robin Mathews

“Slick Water”, of course, is the feel of good water when changed by Fracking poisons. It is good water invaded by (Corporation-imposed secret) human-and-plant-destroying poisons pumped underground during “Fracking” (hydraulic fracturing of natural underground strata) to “retrieve” oil and/or natural gas. Those poisons then find their way into the agricultural and drinking water of unsuspecting people who reside (usually) not far from the work of those giant, care less, private Corporations which – all too often – have bought-and-paid-for government regulators and politicians in power. The poisons … then make ill, maim, and even kill plants, animals, and human beings.

The enormity of the damage to land and water and creatures, the outrageous invasion of the sanctity of innocent people, and the permanent tragedies created could only be possible in a world where Big Corporations have become, in fact, law-makers and enforcers in a world where corporate crime is accepted as normal behaviour. “The Mike Duffy Trial”. Is It A Gigantic Fraud From Start To Finish?

By Robin Mathews, Sept. 2015

Journalists of the conventional press and media are asking questions. Questions. Questions. Will the Mike Duffy trial affect the October election? Are Canadians paying attention? Will they remember what has gone on, so far, in the trial when they vote? Etcetera. As usual the conventional press and media are asking the wrong questions….

Some of them, we may trust, are doing so deliberately, are employed to ask the wrong questions … deliberately.

They all should be asking and investigating…. They should be challenging major actors, daily, on the key question: is the whole operation a “fix”, a fraud, a scam, a gigantic, expensive make-believe construction?

The answer is very likely: “Yes”. Continue reading

NDP Leadership is Hushing Up War Crimes

The NDP leadership has just fired its third candidate for speaking up on behalf of the Palestinians. Mr. Morgan Wheeldon said:

One could argue that Israel’s intention was always to ethnically cleanse the region — there are direct quotations proving this to be the case. Guess we just sweep that under the rug. A minority of Palestinians are bombing buses in response to what appears to be a calculated effort to commit a war crime.

The Israeli occupation state in Palestine is a racist, apartheid and colonial settler regime built by war crimes, land theft and genocide. The NDP leadership seems not in a mood to hear about this ongoing catastrophe, and it is even ready to hush up any candidate who tries to clean up what is under its rug. Continue reading

Why Does The NDP Support FRACKING?

I’m a member of the NDP –

I’d like to say a few words to ‘Our Leaders’

Many of us have a dream of what the NDP is supposed to be. In my view, the NDP stands for Economic Justice, Social Justice, and Environmental Justice.

I no longer have that dream about the NDP, because I’ve seen the reality. Continue reading

BC Legislature Meets on Petronas Give-Away Bill

No Fracking(July 13, 2015): Citizens interrupted Christy Clark as she spoke in the Legislature on Monday introducing a Bill to sell British Columbia out to Petronas. Ms. Clark, with the assistance of the NDP, plans to have this Bill passed within two weeks, before most people realize what’s being done to us and our province.

Your MLAs DON’T want to hear from you on the Petronas deal,
but you CAN tell them what you think …

THE LIBERAL CAUCUS CAN BE REACHED AT: 250 356-6171
THE NDP CAUCUS CAN BE REACHED AT: 250 387-3655
ANDREW WEAVER OF THE GREENS AT: 250 472-8528

Media won’t say F Word: The Corporate Media pretends it’s all about jobs, as if they cared about jobs. They don’t, the media care about Corporate Profits. The media pretend BC will get a lot of money from this, which is NOT true. And the media refuse to say the word Fracking, which is what the Petronas deal is all about. They intend to POISON this province with fracking.

Thank you Christy Clark, John Horgan, our wonderful MLAs, and the corporate media. This is truly one of the greatest betrayals in BC history.

Ottawa Attack. NDP Looking Into Parliamentary Investigation

(Nov. 13, 2014) It is 3 weeks since the murder of two Canadian soldiers, and the attack on Canada’s Parliament Buildings. Many Canadians fear this was a false flag operation. We all want to know the true facts of what happened. We have an ‘official story’ – from the RCMP and Media – saying this was a terrorist attack by self radicalized extremists (perhaps manipulated by ISIS). That story may be true, but many Canadians no longer believe the RCMP or the Corporate Media. We need an Independent Investigation of this entire event to find the truth of what happened. Building Democracy in Canada

If we want a better Canada, we need more democracy. Democracy is ‘government of, by, and for the people’. Not government of the corporations as we have now, but government of the people.

The corporations that control Canada are plundering our nation. To get our Canada back, we have to fight the corporations, beat them, take back our country, and fix things up.

Health Care is one example of how they treat us. Canadians are forced to wait for health care because that is the corporate plan. They know they have to ruin our public system before they can privatize it; and long waits are a part of this plan. As for those who suffer and die – Corporate Canada does not care. We need to regain control of our health care system – and make it work for us. Continue reading

Corporate Media Undermining Democracy in Canada

not corporatocracy

(The Bridge News Service:  August 31, 2014)

The word ‘democracy’ is  being mentioned more often in Canada as Canadians see their democracy disappearing.

The basic problems in Canada are twofold:

1.We do not have ‘A Free Press’ in Canada. All big Canadian media are owned by Corporate Canada and used as a Propaganda Machine to control our country, our society, and our resources and wealth. The Corporate Media controls Canada. Continue reading
