Gauteng Arts and Culture MEC Faith Mazibuko has added her voice of condemnation of what she calls the senseless killing of Soshanguve-based actor Sibusiso Khwinana.
The 25-year-old was killed on Friday last week in the east of the Pretoria CBD. Khwinana’s cellphone was taken.
Mazibuko and a civil organisation Forum for Service Delivery (F4SD) visited the artist’s home in Soshanguve on Monday afternoon to pay her respects and offer condolences.
She says Khwinana’s death is a blow not only to the entertainment industry.
“Out of the little knowledge and the dedication and the work that he has done, building his career that is why we say it makes us in fact feel very bad and very sorry. But most of all being ashamed that this is what crime does to a young aspirant artist. And we are very saddened to hear that because out of him we knew that he would have been a mentor even to others.”
F4SD Youth president Kgothatso Ramautswa says it is wrong to use poverty as excuse for committing crime.
Ramautswa says his organisation has started a social project to train and teach youth that crime does not pay.
“ We are trying our level best to bring role models who will speak to the young people and make sure that young people understand that the criminal elements that are happening in our country don’t mean it is a way of life. We understand there are no job opportunities, but we would try our level best as an organisation with other stakeholders to make sure that we create opportunities – we create skilful centres to make sure that our young people don’t find themselves in crime.”
