Hollywood actress and United Nations (UN) special envoy for human rights Angelina Jolie has made a plea to all nations to focus on equality, rights and the participation of women in all sectors of society and business.
She made a plea for action while addressing the UN in New York.
Jolie said women and girls continue to make up the majority of victims of war.
She added that unequal power relations and gender bias have contributed to keeping women in a subordinate and vulnerable position internationally.
The 43-year-old was appointed U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees in 2012.
