The Site C Issue: The Tale of Two Voting Systems

By Richard Habgood.

BC’S Site C dam is a very contentious issue. On one side, you have Premier Clark and Energy Minister Bennett, who are determined to build a dam that they say is necessary for future electrical needs and to power an LNG industry. Opponents contend that if BC does need the power, we can get it from less expensive renewable resources and without infringing on First Nations rights or destroying farmland that could feed a million people.

So how does the electoral voting system play into this scenario?

First Past the Post:

The 2013 BC Provincial election, using our first past the post (FPTP ) voting system, saw the Liberals win 44% of the popular vote but in doing so they gained 58% majority of seats in the Legislature. BC’s FPTP voting system awarded the provincial Liberals a “false majority ” government with a minority of votes. And because they gained a slim majority of seats, they have governed as if they have a mandate to do what they want and build Site C. Community TV and the CRTC “Hearing”

The following email was sent to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC):

To whom it may concern:

Many residents of our community do not want to have cable TV because it is full of consumerism, trash culture and its high cost. Still, in a democratic society, these citizens should have the right to manage, produce and view their own Community TV.

But when the CRTC says: “Cable companies will continue to have the stewardship of the community channel on behalf of their subscribers as they have for decades. The CRTC was not persuaded that this successful model should be changed.” … The CRTC shows little care about these citizens and their ability to take on the responsibility of their community TV, and citizens are told to accept that giant cable companies which dominate all the air waves and communications are also here to manage our community TV. … After Sleep….

(By Robin Mathews, Oct.21, 2015)

“Methinks I see in my mind a noble and puissant nation rousing itself like a strong man after sleep, and shaking her invincible locks. Methinks I see her as an eagle mewing her mighty youth and kindling her undazzled eyes at the full midday beam.”
[John Milton (1608-1674) Areopagitica]

In the impossible construction called a democratic nation every evil that arises in community can gather itself into a single force and seem to spread without hindrance: greed, bribery, flagrant breach of public trust, oppressing fear, racism, cynical exploitation of the weak and vulnerable, cronyism, manufactured militarism, organized corruption ….

Heartbreaking is the ease with which the single force seems to be accepted as … well … ‘the way of the world’.

All those who can benefit seem to choose to do so as the wrecking ball swings through the democracy. The others, mostly, seem to cower in fear. Here and there voices are raised. Records are kept. Violations are recorded and broadcast by means possible. Many of the ordinary means are bribed or coerced into silence, closed to what is real. Even so … the word goes round. Continue reading

Canadian MPs to vote on Stronger Parliament and Democracy soon

Very soon, at the FIRST caucus meeting of each party, a HUGE decision is going to be made. At their first Caucus Meetings, our MPs can vote to get some power for themselves .. and hopefully for us.

Our MPs have the opportunity to vote to strengthen our Parliament,
and to reduce the power of the Prime Minister, the PMO,
and the other Party Leaders.

They will by voting on l REFORM OF PARLIAMENT ACT. Never heard of it? That seems to be the plan. Continue reading

“The Mike Duffy Trial”. Is It A Gigantic Fraud From Start To Finish?

By Robin Mathews, Sept. 2015

Journalists of the conventional press and media are asking questions. Questions. Questions. Will the Mike Duffy trial affect the October election? Are Canadians paying attention? Will they remember what has gone on, so far, in the trial when they vote? Etcetera. As usual the conventional press and media are asking the wrong questions….

Some of them, we may trust, are doing so deliberately, are employed to ask the wrong questions … deliberately.

They all should be asking and investigating…. They should be challenging major actors, daily, on the key question: is the whole operation a “fix”, a fraud, a scam, a gigantic, expensive make-believe construction?

The answer is very likely: “Yes”. Continue reading

Is There Any Democracy In Our Election?

Corporate Media Won’t Let Elizabeth May
Into Their Debates …

(Aug. 14, 2015): The Corporate Media says Elizabeth May doesn’t have the seats to get into the Corporate debates. The Greens don’t have the seats, but they DO have the VOTES.

In the last election, the Greens got about 600,000 votes,
and the Conservatives 6 million.
The Greens elected 1 MP, the Conservatives 166.

Canada has a voting system where ten times the votes gets 166 times the seats. Corporate Canada LOVES this voting system and will not allow us to change it.

Now, The Corporate Media are using the phony results of THEIR voting system to keep Elizabeth May out of their debates. And why? Because they don’t want Canadians to hear what she has to say.

THAT is the sad state of our Democracy
in Canada today.

Canada’s War on Syria

Jason Kenney

Jason Kenney

“The sovereign democratically elected government of Iraq has asked Canada and allied countries to help them defend their innocent civilians from terror attacks being launched out of eastern Syria in a part of that country which the Syrian government either is unwilling or unable to control,”
-Jason kenney Mar 25, 2015 in the Parliament of Canada.

Is Iraq a sovereign country? The simple answer to that is NO, Iraq is an occupied country, it’s occupied by American military forces and their allies. There are also more than 100,000 foreign mercenary contractors in Iraq Therefore, Iraq can not be called a sovereign country nor it can have a “democratically elected government”. Continue reading

Are Canada’s Media Lying About ISIS?

Are They trying to involve us in a WAR?

WHY?

(January 2, 2015) Canada’s media is full of stories about ISIS. ISIS is behind the murder of two soldiers in eastern Canada – and gunfire in our Parliament Buildings. ISIS is linked to a hostage taking and killings in a restaurant in Australia. We are shown ISIS Beheadings and ISIS Executions. ISIS is taking over the Middle East. And Canada is fighting ISIS right now – ‘because they must be stopped’.

BUT … if you google: ‘ISIS funded by US’ you will see some very serious people saying ISIS is funded by, run by, and controlled by the United States and its allies. These stories seem to come from good sources. But our Media won’t tell us the ‘US funding ISIS’ story. Can we Canadians ask why our Corporate Owned Media will not report this story. Continue reading

The Attack on Parliament

Can We Believe the Media/RCMP Story?
DO WE NEED AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION?

(Dec. 8, 2014) On October 20, W/O Patrice Vincent, was murdered near Montreal. His assailant was shot and killed by police shortly after. Eyewitness accounts said he had his hands in the air when shot. The Media then changed the story, and Canada was told he had a knife, attacked the police, and was killed in self defence. We don’t know which version is right, but I think it is of the utmost importance for our country that we find out exactly what the truth is. (Thanks to Global Research for their great work on this story.)

On Oct. 22, a second soldier, Cpl Nathan Cirillo, was murdered in Ottawa. Minutes later his killer forced his way into the Parliament Buildings and was shot to death. Continue reading

Parliament Attacked … Many Questions and Few Answers.

Parliament Attacked … Two soldiers murdered.
Many questions. Few answers.
Media Silent. Parliament Silent.

(Nov. 21, 2014) It is now one month since two Canadian soldiers were murdered, and the Parliament Buildings attacked. Lots of questions are being asked, but there are few answers. Is anyone investigating the attack and murders? I contacted the RCMP to ask. They sent me two news items dated a month ago. If they are investigating, it is in secret.

There are concerns the event is a False Flag Attack. This is, unfortunately, possible. Continue reading
